Flawless (Chestnut Springs, #1) by Elsie Silver

Tropes: Small Town, Cowboy, Workplace Romance, Reverse Grumpy x Sunshine, Forbidden Love

“Flawless” is the first book in the chestnut spring series and all of them are interconnected standalones. (If you need the guide I’ll be posting soon) or check here. This book follows Rhett Eaton and Summer Hamilton. Rhett is a professional bull rider and gets into a scandal about not liking milk? Yup and that’s how his reputation goes downhill from losing his brand deals and sponsorship. So in order to clean his image his publicists assigned Summer (Who also happens to be his Manager’s daughter) to move in with him in his ranch to babysit him and make sure he doesn’t do anything to make the situation worse. And we can guess what happens from there.

My favorite quotes + review –

“Choosing each other. Finding each other. Showing up for each other. And everything about the moment is flawless.”

I’m not gonna lie, I found the main characters kinda annoying at the same time I loved how messy their situations were and how mean they were to each other from the beginning but in the midst of everything they found each other, showed up and made peace with everything. And reading their crumbs in the other books were a lot better because I didn’t actually like the first book as much as I liked the rest of the books in the series. I originally started this one only to read the 2nd one, heartless because of the book teasers so I picked it up just for a better experience and to understand the universe better. But I liked the banter and the family dynamic. The small town setting, ranch life. I also have never read a book with cowboy sports as the trope so it was nice to try something new.

  • “She and I really are binary stars, stuck in each other’s orbit, drawn together by forces we can’t see or understand—but that we can feel.”
  • “You were out there this whole time, and now I know you exist, and I can never go back. Wouldn’t want to if I could.”
  • “Sometimes we seize the moment, and sometimes it seizes us.”

Heartless (Chestnut Springs, #2) by Elsie Silver

Tropes : Small Town, Cowboy x Nanny, Age Gap, Badass fmc

The second book is about Cade and Willa. Cade is Rhett’s big brother and Willa is Summer’s best friend from book 1. Cade is a single dad of a 5 year old Luke but with working long hours at the ranch and taking care of him getting tougher each day especially as the summer season is approaching. But Cade is hell bent on not taking anyone’s help but Summer steps up anyway and requests her best friend Willa to babysit Luke for the summer. As soon as Willa reaches the ranch Cade understands she’s good for his son to babysit but he needs to keep his distance from her.

My favorite quotes + review –

“And I realize in that moment maybe I am heartless after all, because the beautiful girl with the copper hair grinning back at me right now is the one who stole it.”

Okayyyy, so this is my favorite book in the series. I don’t know exactly why I loved it so much but I have a million reasons at the same time because I’ve reread this book so many times I’ve lost count. I love the grumpy x sunshine trope so much and this one served with a mix of sunshiney badass fmc, the banter was perfect. The small town setting, ranch life, and family dynamic just kept getting better. And mostly the slow burn and tension was so perfect with the plot. Some bonus brownie points for Luke and especially his relationship with Willa. I can’t believe I actually cried reading their scenes. But I’m not gonna lie, the last few chapters were a bit frustrating and felt very fast paced because I was very much invested in the plot twists. I loved how it ended and I wish we could get more scenes after that.

  • “Life lesson, shithead. Careful who you pick a fight with. Someone insane might love him.”
  • “Hey, Willa?” “Hey, Luke,” I reply dryly, since the be quiet part obviously didn’t register. “Sometimes I wish you were my mom.”
  • “I’m definitely in my country-boy era.”

Powerless (Chestnut Springs, #3) by Elsie Silver

The 3rd one is about Jasper Gervais and Sloane Winthrop . Jasper was adopted by Harvey Eaton and he grew up with the Eaton brothers. And Slone is a cousin of the Eaton brothers. They were both mentioned and appeared in the previous books. Jasper is a professional hockey player and Sloane is a ballerina. They are both going through a tough time. Especially for Slone as everything is wrong and going downhill for her and she has no idea what to do with herself other than running off from her own wedding leaving everything behind. Jasper was also having a hard time with his career and decided to take some time off and also steps up to help Sloane as they are childhood friends. And they decide to take a road trip together to escape reality for a while which takes them on a whole different journey.

My favorite quotes + review –

“The answer is no. None of that shit matters. Because we’re me and you. We’re us. Unlikely and inevitable all at once. We’re forever.”

I’ve read mixed reviews before reading this book and 80% of them were not so positive. But I was also going on a road trip and this book was released the same week so I had to bring it with me. Honestly, it didn’t disappoint and I actually liked it a lot. I have a theory, and joke about this a lot, that I would give a book 5 stars if the cover and the theme is purple because it’s my favorite color. It actually turns out to be true every single time. I don’t know how. Back to the book review, I loved the characters, how they fought everything for themselves and fought their own self to realize they have been in love with each other since they were younger. Apart from all the twisted dark past they both choose each other.

  • “The answer is no. None of that shit matters. Because we’re me and you. We’re us. Unlikely and inevitable all at once. We’re forever.”
  • “For too long, I was a soft, demure little dove. And then they burned me. Scorched me. Turns out I’m a dragon and I’m fed the fuck up with boys and their bullshit.”
  • “He’s constantly trying to blend into the background, but even when he’s hiding, I see him.”

Reckless (Chestnut Springs, #4) by Elsie Silver

Chestnut Springs Series by Elsie Silver

Reckless is the 4th book which follows Theo and Winter. Winter is Summer’s sister from book 1. And Theo is Rhett’s friend who’s also a bull rider like him. And Winter Hamilton is an ice queen, prim and proper doctor and everyone thinks she is exactly how she portrays herself. Which is not completely true as she was dealing with a lot in her personal life starting with a toxic marriage and working long hours at the hospital. Soon she files for divorce and leaves her marriage and to celebrate and relax after ages she agrees to Theos offer to have a drink at the small town bar, but as they get drunk they share a lot about themselves, including their deepest darkest secrets. And the night changes everything forever.

My favorite quotes + review –

“That night we were reckless. But god, I’d be reckless with you over and over again if it means ending up here.”

When I first found out the 3rd book was about Winter, I was very much shocked. Because I didn’t like her at all in the first book and how she treated summer all her life. But reading her book, the problems she faced growing up still dealing with it and how misunderstood she was all her life was equally painful. Her pov made so much sense and how she became exactly what people think of her. And Theo, a true man written by women. I loved him from the beginning. The softie gentleman, the act of service and words of affirmation, grieving the lost time to become better for his girls was what carried the whole book for me. At first some of the things didn’t make sense but it got better eventually. The main plot twist of the book could have been better in my opinion. But I loved every single thing in this book.

Hopeless (Chestnut Springs, #5) by Elsie Silver

The last and the final book in the series which follows Beau Eaton and Bailey Jensen. Beau has been quiet ever since he came back from the Military after something extreme happened to him. As much the town considers him the life saver, town prince and protective hero it’s eating him up internally. His family is worried about him too. And on the other hand Bailey is determined to save enough money and leave this town and her abusive family after everything she went through all her life and still receiving as an outcast. The town people treat her disrespectfully. So in the meantime to fix their own things, they both strike up a deal to get engaged which will help them solve their problem temporarily. And what is supposed to be temporary soon becomes permanent as their secrets get stronger and the pretending game becomes reality.

My favorite quotes + review –

“There’s something fractured about Beau. About his spirit. Like he’s torn between so many versions of himself and doesn’t know which one to pick.

First off, thank you Elsie for dedicating everyone who wanted beaus book. I feel like I’m one of those girls who begged for that. I like Beau more than Rhett and Cade and wanted his book from the first time he was mentioned. But this book surprised me because it was everything opposite of what I thought. I couldn’t read it when it was released, not even in the same month which I barely do and it was also one of my most anticipated books of the year. So I added it to my spring tbr. And it was actually one of the last books I read in my spring break too. Honestly I enjoyed the book but there was some stuff I didn’t like and something’s also didn’t make sense. But I also enjoyed every bit of it and think it was a perfect way to wrap the series.

  • “If we’re struggling, we’re still in motion, yeah? Heading somewhere better. That’s what I keep telling myself anyway.”
  • “No, I’m scared of you becoming something I can’t live without.”
  • “It bothers me that what we’re doing here can be filed away as fake when it’s the most real thing I’ve felt in my life.”
  • “There’s something fractured about Beau. About his spirit. Like he’s torn between so many versions of himself and doesn’t know which one to pick.
  • “Fantasy and reality, so close yet still so far apart.”
