About Funny Story by Emily Henry + Summary
Daphne had always cherished how her fiancé Peter spun their love story—how they met on a blustery day, fell for each other over a wayward hat, and eventually moved to his lakeside hometown. But everything took a turn when Peter confessed his love for his childhood friend Petra instead.
Now, Daphne finds herself alone in the picturesque town of Waning Bay, Michigan, struggling to make ends meet with her new job as a children’s librarian. With no local support network, she decides to move in with Miles Nowak, Petra’s ex. Miles, a scruffy and emotional soul with a love for heartbreak ballads, is the complete opposite of pragmatic Daphne. Initially, they maintain their distance, but as they bond over their shared heartaches, they hatch a plan to mislead everyone about their new life by posting embellished photos of their summer together.
Despite their best efforts to keep things purely platonic, Daphne can’t shake the growing feelings she develops for Miles. As their faux relationship becomes more complicated, Daphne wonders if she might be on the brink of a new, unexpected love story.
Funny Story by Emily Henry My Thoughts + Favorite Quotes (Spoiler Free)
My year in books will never be completed if I don’t read a brand new Emily Henry book. Ever since I started reading romance books, especially Emily Henry books, I can’t think of summer without an Emily Henry book in mind. For me her books feel like summer and movies in the form of a book.
I’ve read Emily Henry’s every new release in the same month whenever they were out and slowly made it a tradition. This year it took a while as I’m having the worst year in reading possible. But I’m glad I finally picked it up. My reading experience is more exciting knowing a funny story is also getting a book to screen adaptation like all the other Emily Henry books.
“Our gazes latch.
The fluttery warmth in my stomach curdles.”
One thing that I found really unique is how both the main characters went through a heartbreak. And Emily did a fantastic job writing that part too. Like I could actually feel how Daphne and Miles felt throughout their heartbreak.
The book was a perfect mix of everything. Something I’ve not read in Emily Henry’s book before. Just two people who just got their heartbroken and got thrust into a life none of them ever thought they would be in. But slowly co existing to heal together going on mini adventures, doing domestic things without acknowledging, making each other laugh, cook and watch action movies none of their previous partners liked to actually falling in love.
“I think you should do exactly what you want to do,” I tell her.
“Let’s rob a bank,” she says.
“I think you should get a dog.”
I love Daphne and Ashleigh’s friendship. They both were in a stage where everything was confusing. Daphne not only had a terrible breakup but also a friendship breakup as all her friends were her ex’s friends too. Even though they would try to console her and constantly tell her they are with her but never meant it truly ae they would hang out with Peter and Petra. It hurt Daphne. And after moving to my apartment everything drastically changed.
For some reason I thought I’m not gonna like this book as much as I liked other Emily Henry books. Which is partially true because I was not really interested in reading the blurb. But if Emily Henry writes it I know it’s gonna be good. So I enjoyed it. But I’m confused with the characters.
