I Hope This Doesn’t Find You by Ann Liang
The school records present Sadie Wen as the flawless student holding multiple leadership positions along with becoming the valedictorian and gaining positive teacher reviews. The model-student smile remains fixed permanently on her face through her practice of sending intense emails to soothe her frustrations. She chooses to keep her aggressive emails unsent because death feels better than causing someone distress but she requires that emotional outlet to vent upon the English teacher and the self-serving student who steals her work.
Sadie devotes most of her heated correspondence to Julius Gong who continuously bothers her with his smug attitude and need to excel over others since boyhood. Your obsessive fascination with yourself combined with vanity produces an unbearable vanity that drives others crazy. I truly want your hairbrush to break and for you to exhaust every dollar spent on obtaining supposedly soft hair appearance.
Until the day her emails leaked by accident Sadie could freely express her thoughts since no one would ever access her electronic messages. Sadie experiences a sudden tragic downfall of her once-perfect arrangement after just one night. The nightmare has become a reality as students now understand her true feelings about them and everyone exposes their genuine opinions to her face. During the madness Sadie discovers that Julius the solely disliked male figure starts to value the genuine core of who she is.
From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata
From Lukov with Love presents the best romantic combination of enemies-to-lovers and friends-to-lovers with a slow paced sports-themed plot. Ivan Lukov together with Jasmine Santos professionally cooperated on ice skating throughout numerous seasons. In addition to their rivalry Ivan’s sister maintains friendship with Jasmine. Although these two people have maintained a tense connection between them their relationship has never been great throughout their time together.
The external signs indicate their mutual dislike for each other. Jasmine continues skating yet competitive elements seem impossible for both the present and maybe any future point in time. The arrangement that Ivan extends to Jasmine consists of something she physically cannot turn down.
The opening sequences of their collaborative work and skating partnership brought plenty of entertainment. Their humorous exchanges worked as the best part of their interactions. Their banter crossed the line into ridiculousness which turned out to be enjoyable. I enjoyed very much seeing their friendship develop. Ivan presents an unpleasant first impression yet proves himself as the best man who possesses the biggest compassionate nature. The moment I ensured a romantic connection between Ivan and Jasmine from the earliest scenes I felt genuinely pleased as their friendship became romantic.

You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle
This witty comedy tells the story of Naomi Westfield and Nicholas Rose who are supposedly perfect partners bound for marriage. The perfectly matching couple shows the symptoms of intense emotional hostility while doing their best to avoid their wedding day.
The couple who detests each other proceeds through a pattern of escalating humorous sabotage strategies to make the other breakup without sending refunds for the wedding fees. The endless arguing combined with hidden aggressive actions between them produces entertaining chaos throughout their relationship.
During their progressively intense “war” Naomi and Nicholas uncover real feelings and remember why they rooted for each other at the start of their relationship. Each reveals their authentic nature by destroying their carefully built masks to the other person.
This entertaining work presents a compilation of clever dialogue and approachable human protagonists to its reader. Both Naomi and Nicholas achieve charm and delight the reader because of their strong independent spirit and hidden inner layers respectively.
Nothing Like the Movies (Better Than the Movies, #2)
Wes and Liz maintained a high school relationship before fate led Wes to disrupt their joint future plans. The tragic event affecting Wes’s family made him break free from their joint plans which eventually led to their relationship ending. After two years they meet by chance at UCLA during their college years. The university newspaper employs Liz for internship duties where she reports on baseball as Wes progresses in his first-year as an athlete.
Wes dedicated himself to retrieving Liz’s love by carrying out elaborate romantic schemes that built on his knowledge of her personality. The old hurts Liz experienced from their relationship prevent her from allowing Wes to get close again. She has chosen to invest her time in pursuing new interests with another man instead of Wes.
Wes feels increasingly miserable when Liz remains unresponsive to his attempts to win her back thus he starts doubting if their connection will ever be renewed.
The essential aspects of this summary involve the sudden encounter between the former couple as well as Wes’s repeated efforts to regain Liz’s affection while she remains emotionally distant.
XOXO by Axie Oh
Season 2 still had the boarding trope and forbidden love trope with a twist of kpop artist, which remind me of this book. Jenny, a dedicated cellist aiming for a prestigious conservatory, encounters the enigmatic Jaewoo at her uncle’s karaoke bar. Jenny experiences her first transformative night after meeting Jaewoo by chance which forces her to step beyond her usual comfort zone. Jaewoo vanishes without anyone knowing his whereabouts.
Jenny stops at South Korea to help her ill grandmother but finds out Jaewoo belongs to XOXO and studies at the same prestigious arts academy that she attends during her visit. The discovery about K-pop idol relationships being forbidden disrupts all of Jenny’s previous plans for her life’s direction.
The challenges in their path fail to push Jenny away from her connection with Jaewoo. Similar to XOXO’s leader Namjoon he displays responsible leadership qualities and caring manner coupled with the traits of a leader. To grow fully committed with this person Jenny must evaluate whether she wants to follow what love brings or preserve her planned future.
To All the Boys Trilogy by Jenny Han
And lastly the book trilogy, where everything began. With the release of Xo Kitty, season 2 everyone is in their To all the boys era again. which means reread and rewatch season!!
Here is the reading order. The movie adaptations are also based on this order and available on Netflix and I recommend reading or watching in this order.
- To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
- P.S. I Still Love You
- Always and Forever, Lara Jean
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is a 3 book young adult contemporary romance book Series by Jenny Han. It follows Lara Jean Covey as she navigates her romantic adventures. Lara Jean has written love letters to every single of her crushes with the intention of never sending them and keeping it a secret. But one day all of the letters get mysteriously mailed. From her childhood first best friend to her first kiss to a boy she met at a summer camp, she has written a total of 5 letters. All 5 of them has received it.
If it was not embarrassing enough, it was definitely way more embarrassing and awkward when one of them is her sister’s ex and her then best friend. To make things normal she decides to offer Peter Kainsky, another guy who received her letter to fake date her which has mutual benefit for him too. And they come up with a plan and tag along and sooner it becomes something more real.
If you don’t want any spoilers I recommend skipping from here. But if you still want to know more about book 2 and 3 you are more than welcome!!
So, Book 2 begins to write after the first one. Lara Jean and Peter are officially a couple. As easy and tough Lara Jean thought it would be to fake date and pretend to be in love, it is way hard when everything is real. Especially when she receives a reply letter from John Ambrose McClaren, one of the boys from her letter situation from the first book. As he reappears in her life and her relationship with Peter gets complicated she is torn between her decisions.
Eventually Lara Jean sorts their things and enjoys their senior year before they head out for college. From class trip to New York City, prom with Peter, Beach Week after graduation, and her dad’s wedding to Ms. Rothschild, she has a lot in plate. But things don’t always go according to plans and might take different turns. As she tries to make her way through everything one by one, things keep getting complicated, mostly her relation with Peter.
Throughout the trilogy’s conclusion Lara Jean makes big life choices which include deciding about college and her relationship with Peter while she learns to focus on activities that matter most to her. Reading the books in the series or watching the movies might be too much but by the end it will feel like a warm hug and make you whole.
