I love runyx and her writing. 90% of my blog consists of talking about her books. Which is my version of obsessing over her books and I am not ashamed about it. Her writing style, aesthetics, combining two of my favorite genres, thriller and romance together is so perfect. Which is one of the reasons why I couldn’t hate on her recent release and one of my most anticipated books for the past two years, The Syndicate. While everyone hated and ranted a thousand words all over her Goodreads and socials I tried to find the good parts and be happy with it. Here is my review of the syndicate.

I thought I would need similar books as the dark verse series to cure my post dark verse depression. But now I need them for different reasons. So here are some of the books and series I feel gives off the same vibes as the dark verse series and other Runyx books. Hope you’ll enjoy them as much as you love the runyx books.

Hollow Boys Series by Monty Jay

The Hollow boys is a dark and thrilling five-book series set in a wealthy college town which follows a friend group. Each of the boys has their own book. The first one is about Briar and Allister. The 2nd book is about Sage and Rook, and the 3rd and 4th are about the same couple Lyra and Thatcher and the 5th and final one is about Coraline and Silas.

Even though all of them are complete standalones, all the books need to be in order as it has a side plot or something that continues in all the books. Which is similar to the Dark Verse series which is one of the reasons why I chose this book for this book rec and added to my after the dark verse series ends TBR

The Rocchetti Dynasty Series by Bree Porter

The first book follows Sophia Antonia Padovino as she is set to marry the Principe of Chicago Outfit, Alessandro Rocchetti. It begins with her getting ready for the wedding, grieving and memories of her best friend and sister Catherine Rosa Padovino. But soon she says her vows and gets married. The wedding turns into a tragedy and bloodbath. And at the end of the day, her dress fills with blood. The book is very short and contains huge plot twists with spoilers.

The Tarkhanov Empire Series by Bree Porter

The Tarkhanov Empire series follows Konstantin Tarkhanov who is hell bent on building an empire of his own after his father and brother failed to do it rightfully. After leaving everything behind in russian he began working his way from scratch in his new territory, new york and along the way he found new people who slowly became his real family.

And he’s ready to do anything for them. In this journey, he also falls in love with the widow of the enemy, Elena Falcone as she catches his attention. The first two books are about them. And the first one ends on a cliffhanger and the 2nd one starts right where the first one ended with a slightly different timeline. There are supposed to be more books out but since there are no official updates from the author we might not be getting them anytime soon.

The Ruinous Love Trilogy by Brynne Weaver

The Ruinous Love Trilogy is a 3 dark, romcom book series about three brothers. The first book is about Rowan Cane and Sloane, the 2nd one is about and the third one is about. The three books deal with different stories.
In the first book Rowan and Sloane both are rival serial unalivers, who fall in love. Rowan is also a chef btw. They become friends through this and start working together. But the book has really good banter and slow burn along with a really good plot.

The second book follows Lachlan Kane and Lark Montague. Lachlan is a contact unaliver and Lark is a singer songwriter. She offers him a deal which involves his work skills in return for securing his freedom but first they have to get married. As they navigate their fake marriage they discover their secrets and deal with their dark world together.

The third and the final book is not out yet but it will be about Fionn and Rose. Fionn is a small town doctor and Rose is a circus motorcycle performer. Their simple life collides and becomes ruckus after a murderous night adventure. This book will have small town romance, forced proximity, grumpy x sunshine,
hurt/care and many popular booktok tropes.

Grimstone Series by Sophie Lark

The grimstone series by sophie lark has two books. Both of them are gothic, thriller, dark romances and can be read as standalones.

The first one is about Remi Hayes and Dane Covett. Remy moves into Blackleaf Manor, a mansion situated in the spooky little seaside town called Grimstone with her brother in the hopes of starting a new life. There she discovers her neighbor is Dane, who is a doctor and has a bad reputation as the people of the town think he unalived his wife and son. If the rumor wasn’t enough to describe him as a person it gets worse when he threatens and blocks her only way to her home but also blackmails her to fix his fence.

Things get more complicated as the renovations begin, Remy gets injured and Dane helps her and they get into a more complicated situation along with Remy wondering who’s causing all the spooky things in her house. Dane breaking in to scare her or her house is actually haunted?

The second book follows Elena Zelenska and Benjamin Wittacker. It takes place in the same town as grimestone.

The Naturals Series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

The Naturals Series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a 5 book series that follows a group of 5 teenagers who are recruited by the fbi to join a fbi program called the naturals because of their special abilities.

Cassie Hobbes’s ability to read people, Lia Zhang’s detecting peoples lies, Michael Townsend can sense and understand people’s emotions and Sloane Tavish’s amazing analytical skills. And together they use their skills and help the FBI.

The Mindfuk Series

The mindfuck series is a 5 book series. It’s about a FBI Agent Logan Bennet who’s searching for a 6 ‘4 male serial killer but actually it’s Lana Myers in disguise in the mentioned description because she is on her way to take revenge from the people who ruined her life and made her into the Scarlett Slayer she has become over the years.

Monster Trilogy by Rina Kent

The Monster Trilogy follows Kirill Morozov and Aleksandra Ivanova (Sasha) who is disguised as a man, joins the Russian army because she’s out for revenge for her family’s tragic murder and finding out who ordered the hit. The story continues from them training in the military to fighting in the war and Kirill returning to New York along with Sasha as his bodyguard to become the bratvas new Pakhan. But there’s more plot in it as some of the events are set in different timelines and books from the Rina Kent universe.

It was so perfect and I had a great experience reading after getting crumbs of them in the other books and I love Mulan because it is one of my favorite Disney movies and reading a book with the same vibes made it a whole lot better. (Find more on My Reading Order, Favorites + Thoughts + Ultimate Rina Kent guide, read here.)

Also at this point I just know Rina writes the best trilogies or all three of her trilogies (The Deception Trilogy, The Royal Elite Trilogy and now the Monster Trilogy) are my equal favorites and I hope she publishes more in the future.

All the books need to be read in order as it ends on cliffhangers.
