Was It Ends with Us Movie Worse Than The Book? / Movie Review
No spring reading wrap up this year because of the worst reading slump. But I did watch a lot of spring themed movies and series. One of them being the It Ends with Us Movie. Because I really thought I would never watch this movie.

What is It Ends with Us Movie About?
The It Ends With Us movie version based on the book by Colleen Hoover follows Lily Bloom, a woman who went to Boston to start a flower shop after a brutal childhood. She dates and falls in love with handsome neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid who is acted by Justin Baldoni. But their relationship is complicated by the fact that Ryle begins to act like the abusive parents that she saw in the relationship between her parents.
The protagonist is also confronted with her former love Atlas Corrigan, who Lily has to choose between him and her future. The film directed by Justin Baldoni is based on the sensitive issues that include domestic abuse and forgiveness that Colleen Hoover raised in her life and interestingly, the lead characters of the movie are adults as opposed to their book versions.
My Review on It Ends with Us Movie
Well, at least the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni drama convinced me to watch this movie when I didn’t have any plan to. That’s not really true because I have this thing: if a book I have read gets a screen adaptation I will watch it no matter how bad it is. And I was waiting for all the dramas and hype to lower down a little but.
But as the drama is getting stronger and stronger I gave up and finally watched the movie. I read the book 3 years ago and I am not gonna like I liked it and I am not ashamed to admit but I still think if some of the part were different the book would have been way better no matter how bad the author is and now that I have watched it I can also compare how differently I view both of these so here is my review on both the book and the movie.
“Normal person would just leave and go to therapy”
The only person I love in the book and movie is Alyssa.
The beginning was great. It was actually nice of them to start with only Lily, the details from back home, her room and backyard.
The wooden heart and her strained relationship with her father, I think only the people who have read this book before watching this movie will feel it better and the meaning when so much was left unspoken in the first 5 minute scene. I think if the scene was not so serious and Blake had the opportunity to direct it she would have made it a joke. Bc it was kinda funny writing 5 points in a tissue just to not even say a word. In the book it felt a lot different and meaningful but in the movie I couldn’t take it seriously especially because of blake.
Also 5mins in blakes hair is annoying the shit out of me already.
The rooftop scene – when I first read the book back in January 2022 there was some playlist on spotify and youtube which had the exact cover of Blake sitting on the rooftop. So I can already guess these will be the details that will make it like the movie. Blakes acting was as bad as her hair. It was funny and cringey but I definitely enjoyed it.
All the flashback scenes were so good. The casting was perfect but the young atlas was completely different from what I imagined. I feel the young lily portrays the book lily a lot better than Blake.
The Alyssa scene did a justice to the book. It was perfect. She was my favorite character in the book and I knew from her first scene she would be my favorite in the movie too.
Oh no they changed the 2nd meeting scene. Lily was supposed to fall and Alyssa called him to check lily bc they were nearby but they kept it very simple here. I wish they did exactly like the book. Even the scene was not only
Alyssas Birthday- The hair keeps getting worse. And where is Devin?? Istg they removed all the things from the book that could have made the movie better.
The montage scene of them spending time was pretty. Lily looked pretty in all the scenes when her hair was up or tied. Even her styles looked way better.
Nothings gonna hurt by cags and my tears ricocheting, whoever picked out the songs needs a raise.
Atlas and Lily’s first meeting scene after the years was beautiful, I’d say better than the book almost. I could feel the instant connection. Both of their facial expressions matched the scene and how they were feeling.
The first accident scene actually looked like an accident. It was supposed to show ryles first abusive side. How angry and violent he gets. But in the movie it directly shows he burnt his hands and accidentally pushed lily and she hit herself. He also starts apologizing where in the book he shouts at lily.
THEY REMOVED THE LETTER AND MAGNET SCENE!?
No wonder why everyone hated this when It Ends with Us Movie came out.
Even the second time ryle got violent and pushed lily from the stairs looked like accidental. Like if I can imagine the scene from reading the chapter was it really hard to make that according to the book? Why did they change so much in this movie, especially the important parts? But at least we got the full version later.
No matter how much Blake got trolled for her hair and clothing styles and stuff at the end of the day she is a talented actress. I think she did a good job portraying lily’s character after seeing the ryles violent side. Expressing the Emotions book Lily felt after the incidents.
Atlas and Lily’s scenes were so beautiful. The younger version and the adult version. It matched how I was feeling reading the book. Exactly what I imagined too. Definitely matched my expectations.
Maybe Justin was behind the scenes and got to make the perfect without any interruption. At least that’s what I will think for now.
“If you even in a position- fall in love with me” this is one of my favorite quotes of this book and expected to love it in the movie too but I am disappointed. Brandon could have said it slowly or with some warmth. It’s just did not feel right and definitely didn’t like it.
So, Was It Ends with Us Movie Worse Than The Book? / Movie Review
Honestly, I enjoyed it because I decided to not It Ends with Us Movie, Especially when I had so many reasons to actually watch It Ends with Us Movie.
