Happy one year of the first post on this blog and 2nd year of making a mid year wrap up. I’m not having a good reading year so far. I thought last year was worse but this year has been worse so far. I have mostly reread a lot of my favorite books and some mostly anticipated books whenever it was published. But I still managed to find some really good books and new authors.
So, here is my mid year book freakout tag or my mid year book wrap of 2024. The original challenge was started by Ely on her youtube channel “Earl Grey Books” and I did my last year tag based on this. But I tried Katie Witruk tags for this year as she added some questions of her own and I absolutely loved it.
1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2024
– Empress of Poisons. I just know no other book can replace it from my 2024 favorite books. Oh wait, I still have the syndicate by runyx. That could replace or be together on my no.1 list. I just can’t stop talking about this. Which is one of the main reasons almost all of the book recs has this on the list because I somehow try to make it fit into the list no matter what.
The book is part of the Tarkhanov Empire series but only two books are out and there is no update from the author. But it follows Konstantin Tarkhanov who is hell bent on building an empire of his own after his father and brother failed to do it rightfully. After leaving everything behind in Russian he began working his way from scratch in his new territory, new york and along the way he found new people who slowly became his real family.
And he’s ready to do anything for them. In this journey, he also falls in love with the widow of the enemy, Elena Falcone as she catches his attention. The first two books are about them. And the first one ends on a cliffhanger and the 2nd one starts right where the first one ended with a slightly different timeline. There are supposed to be more books out but since there are no official updates from the author we might not be getting them anytime soon.
2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2024?
– Where’s Molly by H.D. Carlton
This is not actually a sequel but a spin off of the Cat and Mouse Series by H.D. Carlton. I was intrigued from the moment I read about Molly in 2022. Like the character itself was so mysterious. And when I found out she is finally getting her own book I was over the moon. I wanted to read it in the spooky season or when the weather was chillier but ended up reading in the summer. But I am hoping for a re-read or reading marathon of H D Carlton Books soon.
Where’s Molly by H.D Carlton is a spin off of the cat and mouse duet. Molly was mentioned in the 2nd book (Hunting Adeline – Cat and Mouse 2), the only girl to ever run from Francesca and the society. It’s a dual timeline so it keeps jumping from Molly’s abduction at 20 to how she survives, saves her sister and becomes her present self.
3. New releases you haven’t read yet, but want to?
The Ex Vows by Jessica Joyce. The debut book of the author was my favorite book of 2023. It was not only my favorite but something I very much needed last year. And as soon as I finished the book I know I have to do everything by the author whenever she publishes something. I think this book was a summer read but I will definitely read it.
4. Most anticipated release for the 2nd half of the year
– The syndicater by Runyx. That’s it, that’s all. I think I talk about Runyx books literally 24/7 and 90% of the blog consists of Runyx books. So I am eagerly waiting to read it.
5. Biggest surprise ?
– The Tarkhanov Empire Series. As I said, I cant stop talking about it. My new topic to yap about after Runyx books.
6. Favorite new author (debut or new to you)?
– Bree Porter
7. Newest Fictional Crush?
– Konstantin Tarkhanov. I fear I am going to somehow add this book in every question. I don’t think I have giggled and blushed so much reading ink on paper. Konstantin was perfect in every way, yes he is very much questionable but I just loved him so much.
8. Book that made you cry?
– Curveball (The Sun Valley Series Book 3)
by E.J. Blaise . I think it was one of the first books I read this year. It was on my summer 2023 tbr because someone said speak now by taylor swift in a book would be this. And as summer 2023 was fully barbie x the eras tour x speak now tv summer I really wanted to read it then. But I ended up reading this year since it’s part of a series. And this one was my favorite.
9. Books that made you happy?
Almost every single one because I love books and it makes me happy. Even though I am having a really bad reading year. I found really good books that made me happy.
10. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)?
– I Want to Die But I Want to Eat Tteokpokki by Baek Se-hee
Katies Book Freakout Tag 2024 Questions :
11. What books do you need to read by the end of the year ?
– Last book of the “The Rocchetti Dynasty Series” by Bree Porter
12. What books do you want to reread this year
And that’s all about my Mid Year Wrap Up. And sadly I had to edit my reading goal for the year on Goodreads. Because my academic pressure is not letting me read in peace and the uncountable reading slumps. But I am hopeful for the fall. So hopefully my years in books’2024 will be better.
13. Favorite author so far this year?
Bree Porter. I think my previous question and summer reads pretty much sums up how much I love this authors books. But unfortunately, she is not active on any platform and there is no updated for any books as of 2024. So guess, I need to find books similar to hers.
14. Books you’ve been putting off ?
– Devil’s Night Series by Penelope Douglas. Which I have to read this fall. Hopefully in October because its set in fall or Hallow
15. A book you enjoyed with mixed reviews ?
– Curveball (The Sun Valley Series Book 3) by E.J. Blaise.
16. 5 star predictions for rest of the year?
– The Syndicater (Dark Verse #6) by RuNyx. I just know it is going to be a rating infinity stars book or once in a lifetime i get to experience something kind of book. So there is no question or even doubt for me.
17. Do you think you’ll reach your reading goal, are you going to change it?
Definitely change it. My reading slumps are making me rethink my life choices at this point. But I am hoping to read at least a 50 books this year. And I have read 30 books so far. So I am hopeful for now.
18. Any new goals for the rest of the year?
Finish my TBR and reach my 50 books reading goal for 2024. Start my fantasy books era with this fall. And be more active on creating newer contents for my bookish blog. And just enjoy every little thing in the process.
