If you are a The Love Hypothesis or active in the booktok community, you probably have seen a few stuff trending ever since the cast were announced for The Love Hypothesis Movie.
From the iconic announcement by Lili Reinhart who plays Olive Smith to sharing sneak peaks while filming, starting trends, kick off the press tour with paying homage to iconic 90s to 2000 romcoms outfits, combing the book readers and her own skincare brand, she totally proved she’s a Marketing baddie by making these Lili Reinhart Marketing Strategies..
To a point I had to search up her education background because as a marketing major, I can confirm she is more than a genius. And, it is still surprising to me that she doesn’t have a marketing degree but wanted to pursue beauty school because she shared on business insider –
“I was planning on going to makeup school because I had dabbled in it as a hobby and I always thought that I could make a career out of it. It was kind of like my backup plan. Luckily, I never had to fall back on it, but I still really do enjoy doing makeup.”

As much as I loved watching Lili playing olive smith and representing women in stem, analyzing and breaking down her marketing strategies makes me wish to watch her play a woman in spam. So, lets begin on by one…
1. The Love Hypothesis Movie Cast Announcement
Back on July 15, 2025 Lili Reinhart posted a behind-the-scenes selfie in costume as Olive Smith which is white lab coat. With emojis that represent Ali Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis book. It’s about Olive Smith, a third year Stanford University biology PhD student who ends up in a fake dating arrangement.
To convince her best friend Anh she has moved on from her ex-boyfriend, Olive kisses the first man she sees in the hall which happens to be Dr. Adam Carlsen, a brilliant but notoriously harsh, unlikable and intimidating young professor in the science lab. Surprisingly, Adam agrees to her deal, wanting to prove to the university administration that he has long ties to the area, in order to be able to free up his research funds.
The two must negotiate their rigid deal at academic conferences, required coffee meetings, and laboratory drama, while trying to deal with truthful, sincere emotions for each other in an academic environment fraught with turmoil. And, dare I say Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman are the best actors to be casted and portray these characters!!
2. Using library, book annotating and coffee to reveal
Up next my favorite and the one I don’t think I could have ever imagined or see anyone using in the foreseeable future. After posting the cast announcement Lili Reinhart shared a tiktok when she was seen roaming in a library and looking for a book asking “I am looking for a book that could be turned into a good rom com that I could possibly be the lead of..” and the camera pans to the love hypothesis book on a shelf and Lili taking that.
The next day she shared another video of her annotating, a line from the The Love Hypothesis and being back in her Olive Smith Outfit, sitting in a stool in the lab smiling and annotating.
She really knows how to melt the bookish community.
If that wasn’t enough, the coffee trick definitely did! (At least for mee). Olive is known to be a coffee addict in the books, there are brief multiple mentions of her and coffee, how much she likes it and literally thrives on it. Especially her questionable coffee orders and dates with Adam Carelsen.
So, after a few months in June 2026 when The Love Hypothesis Movie was in post production, Lili Reinhart posted a video of her picking a coffee from a coffee shop and in the cup the date was written and sipped and said “Can i get some sprinkles on it?” a very olive and lili thing to say ngl but I am here for it.
3. Posting sneak peaks while filming The Love Hypothesis Movie
Ever since the The Love Hypothesis movie filming began, Lili Reinhart started recreating trends and even accidentally creating a few too, all while sharing sneak peaks of behind the scenes of the love hypothesis movie. And she continued to do it and made the anticipation of fans even more.
It got her into some trouble at first but since it was doing quite a bit of marketing right then the love hypothesis movie team let her with a pass and eventually told her it was actually a good idea. And, she was an executive producer so there wouldn’t have been much problem either way.
4. Starting a trend on Tiktok
While Lili was posting behind the scenes of the love hypothesis movie she recreated some popular trends and audios. Which of course went viral and some of it became a trend. The “one arm girlfriend lift” where she and Tom were walking side by side and suddenly Tom lifts her. And, slowly this went viral and almost all the couples recreated it.
5. Launching The Romcom baddie “Method Dressing” Strategy
Now, the most iconic and talked about thing in the entire movie press, the romcom method dressing. As soon the love hypothesis movie press tour began, lili reinhart was seen recreating and wearing outfits inspired by popular 90s and early 2000s rom com movie characters with her stylist Ib Abdel Nasser to pay homage while taking over the internet and setting a cultural moment.
