“When does Sunrise on the Reaping Movie comes out?”

Sunrise on the Reaping is an upcoming hunger games movie. Based on Suzanne Collins’ 0.5 book in the hunger games series it’s a science fiction dystopian movie set in the same universe as all the hunger games movies. Recently, on March 18, 2025 the book was released and the movie adaptation was announced to be released on November 20, 2026.

Following the main plot of the book and exploring young Haymichs story the movie will center around the 50th Hunger Games, also referred to as the Second Quarter Quell. The movie will be produced by Lionsgate. Francis Lawrencewill be back as the director who handled several Hunger Games films previously. Billy Ray will write the script for the project while Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson will function as its producers.

What will be Sunrise on the Reaping Movie about + plot details

The movie is being adapted from the book “Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins” so it will be focusing on the story of this book. It is the 0.5 book in Suzanne Collins Hunger Games series and the sequel of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Set in the same hunger games world, 24 years before the first hunger games book It’s about Haymitch Abernathy.

During the Second Quarter Quell of the 50th Hunger Games Haymitch Abernathy from District 12 reaches twenty as he faces the inhumane system that aims to destroy him in the brutal games. The bitter alteration of the Quarter Quell tribute rules destroys all of Haymitch’s dreams as it forcibly tears him from his nearest and dearest people including his beloved girl. As a District 12 tribute his alliance with other Capitol victims becomes clear because the Capitol schemed his demise from the beginning.

An unyielding commitment erupts in his heart to confront both the capital’s dominance and the possibility of staying alive. The book exposes how the Capitol falsified truths while revealing the cruel entertainment nature of their actions together with their propaganda extent. Through its narrative the book investigates themes that explore oppression alongside manipulation processes and studies the human strength which maintains existence under merciless violence.

It is confirmed it will be about Haymitch and will revolve around him and we will finally get to see his story coming to live. It will be set in the same hunger games universe and we might see some of the old cast members having cameos in this movie.

The movie hasn’t started filming yet but recently the release date has been announced by Lionsgate and it will be out on November 20, 2026.

There are no official cast revealed yet but we might see some familiar faces coming back again. The older Haymitch Abernathy played by Woody Harrelson might be back. Filming Updates

The movie is in the pre production phase, there are no confirmed cast and locations yet but it will start filming in July 2025 according to abc news.

Production of the upcoming movie Sunrise on the Reaping will start in Germany during July 2025 for a theatrical release on November 20, 2026. The movie’s direction comes from Francis Lawrence who previously directed several Hunger Games films while Billy Ray wrote the script under the production of Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson.

The casting process is active while Charlie Plummer stands as a candidate for Haymitch Abernathy and Ralph Fiennes has accepted President Snow. The production team encountered difficulties because the book came out following the film’s earlier development stage until the release of the book in March 2025 when work accelerated.
