“There will be no explanation. Just reputation.” – Taylor Swift, Reputation

Reputation by Taylor Swift Songs as Books Part 1

Between revenge schemes and foes to lovers turmoil to tender romance and disguises, Reputation is an actual dark academia romance/romantasy score that just has to be paired up with the book you are about to read.

And here you go, a book suggestion to every song of the album, including a brief lyric-to-book pairing, and a mini-synopsis of why it works.

1…Ready For It? – Does it hurt

Does It Hurt? by H.D. Carlton

I love how sometimes a song can describe the whole book literally in a few lyrics. Well it does not spoil the whole plot of Does it hurt by H.D Carlton but definitely matches the main themes and some of the plot still goes with this part of ready for it.

This book is about Sawyer, a girl with the broken past and no clear idea of who she is. And she goes like this, to live by she steals peoples identity and when she first meet enzo, a strange man who is obsessed with the sea and its predators he instantly knows what she is doing. But still he lets her get away until he gets his revenge.

When he drags her on his boat hoping to do just that, a sudden storm makes both of them shipwrecked on an uninhabited island.

Sawyer and Enzo are now in an ill-fated lighthouse with someone who is as mysterious and strange as this island. and in the rising tensions and secrets and a deeper presence, the island caretaker shows a far more diabolical nature.

This book is a chilling story of survival, obsession and self-identity and the real question asked is will she escape alive which perfectly matches the themes of this song and almost the whole album, Reputation (Taylors Version).

2. End Game (feat. Ed Sheeran & Future) – The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a story about a teenager, Avery Grambs who inherits a fortune of a billionaire on the condition of moving to the infamous Hawthorne House with its secret passages and enigmas. This now forces her to go up against the four genius grandsons of a billionaire who is bent on finding out why she was selected to be there. Tight, suspenseful, and packed with puzzles, it is an inheritance, secrets and survival game.

When Avery gets trapped in the high-stakes game of riddles, secrets and inheritance, she finds herself entangled in a hot and cool running love triangle that makes everything complicated. There is a clash of mystery, danger, and romance in this thrilling novel.
I have not yet finished the series but my cousin and some of my friends have been telling me to start this series asap. But I was actually waiting for this series to end.

I remember seeing edits of this book back in 2022, I guess the first two books were out only. And when the 3rd one was about to be released everyone was talking about who is going to be the endgame. Avery and Jameson or Jack. Kinda the situation of Belly Conrad and Belly Jeremiah since the last 3years. So I could not think of a better book to pair up with this song.

3. I Did Something Bad – Monarch by Grimestone

Grimstone Series by Sophie Lark | Monarch

In Grimstone by Sophie Lark, Elena a bookstore nerd, becomes a mail-order bride in order to rid herself of the boredom of her life. And maybe to get away with something bad she did but it does not feel so bad.
With the thought of starting a new life and marrying a man who is constructing her a castle, things might get better for her but things are not as rosy as they sound.

As she lands in the creepy town of Grimstone, the fairytale becomes dark. The castle conceals sinister secrets, and Ben can turn out to be a monster. She is left with no choice but to go to Atlas, a silent hotel owner who happens to be her unordinary saviour. As the grip of Ben starts to squeeze, Elena needs to run out before the castle turns into her prison and something more bad might occur again.

4. Don’t Blame Me – The Tarkhanov Empire

From the outside Elena Falcone might look tough and poisonous but for Konstantin she can be the daisy until life throws the hardest bricks there way. She has to walk away even when the pakhan is begging on his knees to stay.

The Tarkhanov Empire series follows Konstantin Tarkhanov who is hell bent on building an empire of his own after his father and brother failed to do it rightfully. After leaving everything behind in russian he began working his way from scratch in his new territory, new york and along the way he found new people who slowly became his real family.

And he’s ready to do anything for them. In this journey, he also falls in love with the widow of the enemy, Elena Falcone as she catches his attention. The first two books are about them. And the first one ends on a cliffhanger and the 2nd one starts right where the first one ended with a slightly different timeline.

5. Delicate – The Callaway Sisters

Honestly I can’t exactly pick which book to pair with this song especially when almost all the characters go with this song. Maybe because all of them are popular fictional characters.

The series Calloway Sisters by Krista and Becca Ritchie is the story of three sisters, Rose, Daisy and Lily, trying to find their way in the world of love, family and life. The first one is called Rose about a Princeton graduate and fashion designer who is forced to take the spotlight when she decides to join a reality show, something that pits her strength and relationships.

The story of Daisy leads Daisy through the dreams of modeling into reaching misery to her destiny in Paris where she unexpectedly gets some support and love with Ryke Meadows, an adventurous free climber. The series shows how the sisters deal with fame, addiction, fidelity, secrets all the time, developing very close relationships and struggling to achieve their happiness.

The Calloway Sisters is set in the world of Addicted series with intense romance, sibling relationships, and emotional drama in a new adult contemporary saga.

6. Look What You Made Me Do – The Mindfuk Series by S.T Abby

mindfuck

And finally the book which is so reputation coded. Every single chapter feels it has the themes of Reputation.

Mindfck Series is a dark romance and psychological thriller, written by S.T. Abby, about a serial killer vigilante Lana Myers who decides to avenge the men that ruined her life. Aiming at her rivals, she encounters an FBI profiler called Logan Bennett, who is chasing her around unknowingly.

The complicated relationship gets more complicated and Lana tries to reconcile love and secrets with her fatal mission. The series is full of suspense, emotions, and grey morality in a plot, full of justice, trauma, and redemption in a riveting, intense manner.

7. So It Goes… – You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle

you deserve each other

Yes, no one is counting but I am definitely counting down the days I get to watch the official You Deserve Each Other Movie!! Especially the cast, I just know it’s going to be sooo good because of Penn Badgley and Meghann Fahy.

You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle is a comical enemies-to-lovers rom com featuring Naomi and Nicholas, two people getting engaged and who secretly despise each other. Since their wedding date is soon coming along and it is the one who breaks off the agreement who has to fix the non-refundable tab, they also play a very funny game of trying to sabotage the other so he can call it off first.

However, as the war of pranks heightens, they begin to reconcile and as they do so, they also recall why they belonged together in the first place. This book is currently being adapted to a movie adaptation.

And that’s all for this book recommendation. There will be a part two of this which will cover the rest of the tracks. And I am hoping we get Reputation (Taylors Version) in the meantime or at least the vault track.
