Half of the 2026 has flown by and it already feels like a whole year went by because of all the book to screen adaptations. With that being said I am struggling to keep up with my reading goal of 2026 but definitely not a bad year as a reader. With my favorite books being adapted into books and tv shows and great book releases by authors the little I read I am happy with it. But that is not holding me back from continuing this bookish challenge I have been doing for the last 3 years!

Mid Year Book Freakout Tag (ORIGINAL CREATOR)”was started by Ely on her youtube channel “Earl Grey Books” and I did my last year tag based on this

So, welcome or welcome back to racoffeebooks Mid Hear Book Freakout tag 2026! Where i hop on to this bookish reader qna challenge which recaps and ask about the goals of rest of year. But I also do add some questions of mine that you might like <3

So, let’s get into it!!

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2026?

Not Quiet Dead yet by Holly Jackson. I started the year with one goal that this book has to be the first one I read and definitely not because I was having a hard time continuing to continue reading this book and dare I say it turned out to be so good?? Well, minus the ending. I have crashed out enough on my book review, read here if you want. I was not even surprised because Holly Jackson is one of my favorite authors. But it was just the beginning where I was struggling with my reading slump. Now, it’s all good now and I need more book recs.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2026?

As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson. I haven’t read many books this year and this is the only sequel and even if i read something else I would have mentioned this for this question anyway. Reading my beloved pip and ravi one last time, right after finishing a good girls guide to murder was an experience I can’t really express even with a million words. Not to mention the plot twist every Holly Jackson reader debates on. Check more on my review here. But I am really excited to see it on my screen in 2027!!

3. New releases you haven’t read yet, but want to?

King of Gluttony by Ana Huang. I haven’t read any indian desi romcom in a while and I was seated for this book release ever since it was announced. But, i just could not get the time to actually read this but i will as soon as possible. And, the review will be up on my goodreads and blog.

4. Most anticipated release for the 2nd half of the year?

The Romance Revival by Christina Lauren. As someone who loves sweet rom com books I didn’t read much romance books this year yet. Even the ones I did, the romance was most as the subplot of the book. And, honestly I was enjoying that a lot. But I want to get back to my roots. So, while searching for upcoming releases I found Cristina Laurens upcoming second chance romance, liked the tropes and plot and the title felt like a sign too. So, I am really excited to read this book.

5. Biggest surprise ?

The Housemaids Secret.

6. Favorite new author (debut or new to you)?

Frieda McFadden. I ended 2025 with Frieda Mcfaddens The housemaid aka one of the best thrillers which also convinced me to only read thrillers and mystery books this year so far. And, I am slowly going through her backlist and screen adaptations that are in the works.

7. Newest Fictional Crush?

Justin Kohl from off campus. Okay so when I read the off campus series back in 2022 I really didnt like him but i cam say the off campus series has truly changed my mind and made me fall in love with him. I think its mainly the way he was portrayed and how different he seemed in the series than in the book. And, I really want his book or continuation of his story in the off campus series!!

8. A book that made you cry?

Not quite dead yet. Well, if you know you know. I can’t write anything without getting flashbacks of how gut wrenching emotional this book was.

9. Books that made you happy?

I think rereading all my favorite books this year has made me equally happy. After watching  people we meet on vacation I went back and reread almost all the Emily Henry books. And it also reminded me how much happy re reading your favorite books can make you feel.

I also reread the off campus series after the tv show aired. And, I am thinking of going back into the briar u universe and starting the 2nd generation series too. If you also want to start the series and need some help you can check my guide here.
