You probably have seen the popular booktok romantasy series books, A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Mass. Which has a major fandom across the romantasy bookish world. So, when the author of the series made an appearance on Call Her Daddy, USA’s most listened podcast by Alex Cooper it felt like a big celebration that day, especially with the announcements of 2 new ACOTAR books and more updates on her books, adaptations, BTS, personal life and more. So, let’s dive in!

Who is Sarah J. Maas ?

Before we begin, let’s do an introduction on the #1 New York Times and internationally bestselling author, Sarah J. Maas. 

She is one of the most successful fantasy writers in the past ten years. Her books combine fantasy, romance, political intrigue, and character driven narratives, which eventually started the huge romantasy trend on BookTok.And, all her books are listed in the og popular booktok books. She currently has three bestseller fantasy series:

• Throne of Glass
• A Court of Thorns and Roses
• Crescent City

Now, let’s get to the juicy stuff, everything she has revealed and announced in her daddy podcast!

2 New ACOTAR Book Announcement after 2021!

Lets begin with the highlight of the podcast which was a most anticipated update in the ACOTAR series. After 2021 there were no updates from Sarah J. Maas on ACOTAR until the call her daddy podcast episode. 

Years of speculation were then proved right as Sarah J. Maas confirmed that there will be two new ACOTAR books.

And, here are the ACOTAR Book 6 and 7 Officially Release Dates

• ACOTAR Book 6: October 27, 2026
• ACOTAR Book 7: January 12, 2027

Sarah also shared that the following plot of the bools became too huge to fit within a single novel. So, its divided into several parts as the 2 new books. The following plot will follow the following manner:

• Book 6 – Part 1
• Book 7 – Parts 2 & 3
• Book 8 – Part 4 (final part)

Therefore, the fans were hoping that the story would be a trilogy, but Sarah has made it clear that this will be one big story that will be presented in multiple books. She also confirmed  that ACOTAR 6 is already extremely long but the title is not fixed yet. 

ACOTAR TV Adaptation

After it was announced as in development by Hulu and 20th Television in 2021 but later in February 2025 it was dropped. And, SJM shared about it too. No exact news regarding production  but Sarah said that she would like to have additional creative control in case the series gets adapted into television or film. She now only wants it to happen when only it aligns with her visions.

Which includes Casting decisions, Music and sound design, The general atmosphere and the imagery. Overall, the best thing is to make the adaptation remain faithful to the emotional essence of the books.

Tamlin’s Possible Redemption Arc

Tamlin is one of the most questionable controversial characters in ACOTAR and Sarah J. Mass Universe. Sarah replied with a considered response when asked whether Tamlin could later get a redemption arc.

“It’s tricky. If I were to write more about him it would be done in a way that doesn’t erase what he has done or invalidate the feelings of my readers.”

She said that the next storyline with Tamlin would have to be carefully and realistically written. The redemption arc would simply need to recognize his actions in the past and not forget the pain of his actions to the readers who were wronged by his actions.

Instead of sympathizing with him, she also explained that she pitied the character and how he was molded by a traumatized background and being brought up by a troubled family.

SJM Favorite Scene of Feyre and Rhysand

When asked about her favorite scene, SJM revealed its Feyre and Rhysand And,Her choice? The iconic Starfall scene. The scene was based on the song Cosmic love by Florence + the machine. Starfall is already seen by many readers as one of the most magic moments in the series, and we know now what it was actually inspired by. Florence the machines Cosmic Love!

Crescent City Actually A Passion Project?

Having completed big fantasy books such as Throne of Glass and ACOTAR, SJMdecided to write Crescent City, something she would do herself. She did not even have plans to publish it initially saying that it was a way of venting her creativity when she felt mixed up by the demands.

Naturally, the book too turned out to be another huge bestseller.

Bryce and Hunt Are Endgame!

Those who are fond of the Crescent City series were finally confirmed with one of the biggest controversies of the fandom. SJM stated that Bryce and Hunt are endgame. It also implies that Bryce and Azriel are not secret lovers, ending one of the most popular fan fiction.

Mental Health and Writing A Court of Silver Flames

Another of the most emotional parts of the interview was when SJM talked about the period when she wrote A Court of Silver Flames. At that time, she had been dealing with panic attacks and severe mental health issues.She later resorted to therapy and medication.The well known hiking scene in the book was inspired by an event when she lost her temper one day during a hike with her husband. This experience eventually contributed towards healing Nesta in the novel.

Feyre Pregnancy was inspired by SJM’s Pregnancy and Personal Life 

SJM also disclosed that her own experience during pregnancy was what inspired Feyre to have the pregnancy storyline.She gave a very difficult and emotionally traumatic account of her pregnancy which was accompanied by a C-section that was emergency.

The story of Feyre gave her an opportunity to come to terms with those events and concerns, especially the fear of Rhysand losing Feyre. And, she shared her in depth experience. Which is not only the personal thing she shared, she also talked about her family and how she met her husband while she was in college.

The Call Her Daddy Episode episode also had rapid fire round where SJM answered a number of questions by fans. Some of the interesting ones are :

• Bryaxis is actually female
• There may be other powers of truth that Mor has.
• Vaughan is a mystery of character that has not been forgotten.
• The name of the King of Hybern is yet to be officially named.
• There might be a potential appearance of World of Throne of Glass encyclopedia in the future.
• She also gave the slightest hints that the characters in the Throne of Glass universe might possibly re enter the picture at some time in the future.
