So, to get over the Summer I turned Pretty finale hungover I have made this list of movies and tv shows like The Summer I Turned Pretty. But first, let’s do a recap summary if you have no idea about the series.

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han :

The summer I turned pretty is based on the 3rd and final book in the summer I turned pretty series by Jenny Han, We’ll Always Have Summer. The book and series is set after the events of the first two books. It follows Belly Conklin, who grew up spending her summers at cousins beach with her brother Steven and the fisher brothers who are her moms best friend’s sons, Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher.

As they grew up together, Belly starts to have feelings for Conrad and eventually she gets caught up in a love triangle with the fisher brothers that continues from the first book to this 3rd one.

All while the love triangle continues, Susannah’s health takes different turns, belly navigates her life and eventually decides what and whom she is going to choose for herself. Here is The Summer I Turned Pretty Books and Watching Order :
  1. The Summer I Turned Pretty (Summer, #1) by Jenny Han

  3. We’ll Always Have Summer (Summer, #3) by Jenny Han

Now lets dive into the movies and tv shows Like The Summer I Turned Pretty :

Past Lives

Bet you did not expect this movie to be part of this recommendation. But I could not help it to only include it in this rec but also starting with this one. What would happen when your childhood crush re-emerges a few decades after? A lot like how Conrad showed up in Paris for Belly I guess. But that’s not the only reason I felt this movie goes with the themes of The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han.

The bitter, beautiful parts of the film, the questionable feeling between the childhood sweethearts after they were reunited as adults as the story of Nora and Hae Sung, who were torn apart when Nora and her family emigrate from Korea to the USA.

The plot is set over 24 years, with the lives of the characters as they develop and reunite twice. First, since they are young adults, they close the vast gap in the form of late night video calls. After that, 12 years on, Hae Sung visits Nora, who is now married, in New York.

Their reuniting makes them have to face what they are to one another now and what their life may have been like. The movie is a tragic tale of fate, unloved love and the Korean notion of inyeon, that says that relationships in this life are a consequence of the previous ones. Which is one of the main reasons why I felt Past Lives was a perfect movie that also goes with tv shows like The Summer I Turned Pretty. If you liked the final episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty, you will love this movie.

My Oxford Year

My Oxford Year

Checkout my review and guide on “My Oxford Year”, here.

Guess, you did not see this coming too. But hold on. I watched when it was released this august one of the weeks when a brand new episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty aired. Belly was still wondering about her study abroad plan. And this movie was about Ellas study abroad journey.

My Oxford Year is based on the book of the same name, the story follows Ella Durran (book) / Anna De La Vega (film) as she fulfilled a life long dream of studying in Oxford University as a visiting student. She gets her plans messed up when she meets Jamie Davenport a charming and infuriating tutor in literature and what started as banter turns to be a deep and unexpected romance.

From the study abroad aspect and Ella’s new beginnings and life resonated a lot to Belly’s Paris life. So, if you liked that part you are going to love this movie.

My Life With The Walter Boys

Now a better tv shows like The Summer I Turned Pretty. After a tragic accident and becoming an orphan at 15, Jackie Howard had to move into a rural place in Colorado to live with her mom’s best friend who is her legal guardian. From living a private privileged life to slowly living with her guardians family of 12 her life is turned upside down.

But no matter what, Jackie has to live her new life in the wilderness of Colorado and cope with her grief and solve her love triangle with two of the Walter brothers. A lot like Belly’s situation with the fisher brothers. Who happens to be her Moms best friend’s sons too. The show also has the similar romance, complicated relationship, friendship, drama and coming of age themes like the summer I Turned Pretty.

Looking For Alaska

Looking for Alaska is based on John Green’s best selling novel which follows Miles Halter (Pudge) and his friends as they attend Culver Creek Boarding School. Miles used to have a safe environment back at home.

This show also explores his friends and their life as they face challenges of teenage life, friendship, classes, pranks and more until a tragedy happens and they are left with questions. If you liked the summer activities and grief + healing journey of “TSIP: It’s Not Summer Without You” you’ll love this series.

Stranger Things

Just like we got the season finale of TSITP, we are soon getting the final season of Stranger Things. Stranger Things is not exactly summer themed as all the seasons are set in different times of the year but the friend group, adventure, young love, coming of age aspect is similar to the summer I turned pretty.

Especially, the show’s third season is set in the summer of 1985, bringing a nostalgic and adventurous summer vibe to the series which picks up about one year after the events of Season 2. . While Belly works to bring back the summer magic and her friends together as promised to Susannah, Eleven from “Stranger Things” fights the Mindflayer to keep her loved ones safe. And just like “TSIP” season 3 I’m patiently waiting for the fourth and final season of Stranger Things!!

To All The Boys

If you liked The Summer I Turned Pretty but haven’t watched all the boys, you should drop everything right now and watch it. Because this movie series is adapted from Jenny Hans To All the boys books series.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is a 3 book young adult contemporary romance book Series by Jenny Han. It follows Lara Jean Covey as she navigates her romantic adventures. Lara Jean has written love letters to every single of her crushes with the intention of never sending them and keeping it a secret.

But one day all of the letters get mysteriously mailed. From her childhood first best friend to her first kiss to a boy she met at a summer camp, she has written a total of 5 letters. All 5 of them have received it.

If it was not embarrassing enough, it was definitely way more embarrassing and awkward when one of them is her sister’s ex and her then best friend. To make things normal she decides to offer Peter Kainsky, another guy who received her letter to fake date her which has mutual benefit for him too.

And they come up with a plan and tag along and sooner it becomes something more real. The next two follow right after this one. All three of the books and movies are available. If you want to know more about them here : “Books to Read if You Like Minho and Kitty (2025)”

    Xo Kitty

Another Jenny Han work for this rec? Heck yes. But this one is not exactly adapted from any book. As Xo kitty is a spin off series of To All The Boys books and series by Jenny Han. The popular teen tv series which is based on Jenny Hans fictional universe “To all The Boys”.

So far what we know is it will be set in summer and begin right after the cliffhanger ending of season 2. There is no new cast information yet but as it might be the final season we can hope to see some of the og all the boys cast in this Especially after Peter Kabinsky cameo in episode of xo kitty season 2.

Which is based on another of Jenny Han’s best selling novels “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” characters, the youngest covey sister Kitty who’s especially known as a matchmaker, applies for the Korean Independent School of Seoul, which is same school her mom went and where her long-distance boyfriend Dae attends and gets accepted.

In order to find more connection with her mom and reunite with Dae, Kitty starts her journey to Korea. But soon she realizes it’s not as easy as it seems and we get to see her journey discovering life, secrets, friendship & more. There is romance, heartbreak and drama that are very similar to TSIP.

A third season of XO, Kitty is scheduled for release on Netflix as production continues to develop the story of Kitty Song Covey. 1 Season 3 will answer Season 2’s unresolved plot points through more Kitty-oriented romantic dramas and character development with summer-themed content. 2 All main cast members including Anna Cathcart are expected to return.

Xo kitty gives off a lot like a good K- drama so my next picks are summer themed kdramas, TV Shows Like The Summer I Turned Pretty,

      Hometown Cha Cha Cha

Andddd, Last but not the least because I’m posting “Summer K-Drama recs’ ‘ too very soon. I started my Kdrama era this year back in January and I’ve discovered really good k-dramas and a lot of them are summer themed. Even some of them actually felt like I was living inside the summer drama just like “Our Beloved Summer”.

High school sweethearts Choi Ung and Kook Yeon-soo broke up, promising to never meet each other again but fate changed as they had to face each other after 10 years/in their 30s for a video/documentary they filmed over a decade ago. As time passes, their forced proximity helps them to rekindle and… The summer theme, coming of age aspect will definitely give you the feels of TSIP.

      Our Beloved Summer

Our Beloved Summer is a K-drama which follows with the life of two ex high school lovers, Choi Ung and Kook Yeon-soo, who find themselves thrown back into the life of each other ten years after a painful break-up. Just like Belly and Conrad. Their relationship was a stormy one when they were shot in a viral documentary that compared their lives as the top and bottom students at school.

And this time as successful illustrators Ung and career minded professionals Yeon-soo they are called upon to create a follow-up documentary, and they are not only compelled to confront their still-present emotions, but also the ugly reality of their break-up. Again, a lot like Belly and Conrad’s story. But both the couple fought for themselves and somehow found their way back to each other. And a bonus similarity? both the shows has the word summer in the titles and are summer themed.

So, here are my picks for 15 Movies & TV Shows Like The Summer I Turned Pretty, hope you will enjoy them as much as you enjoyed The Summer I Turned Pretty!!.
