When I first watched the first The Summer I turned Pretty season I was deep in my summer break. Which was pretty much no academic stress or studies and only reading summer books with iced drinks. But now it’s different as someone who has to attend summer semesters, especially exam seasons during summer and more specifically when brand new episodes of The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 airs.

While I could not watch new episodes, I went back to season 2, because I remember an episode of Belly Conklin helping Conrad study. I really liked her study method and thought I would try it one day.

And honestly? It gives a major academic comeback energy.

Fast forward to this season, Belly is also in her college era and the study and academia vibes are even stronger. So, I decided to recreate Belly Conklin’s study method and it was cozy, fun, surprisingly very energetic and effective. So here is a step by step guide so you can do it too! Also this marks my first post in my study and academia category so do checkout more for freshly brewed content related contents.

Let’s begin!

1. Wake Up From A Power Nap

Sometimes the best way to start studying is to rest first. I always do this at least for 30mins. It seems like if my mind is fresh I’ll have more and better energy to understand and get things done. In the scene, Belly Conklin kicks things off by waking up refreshed. And a 15 – 20 mins nap? *Chefs Kiss*.

2. Get a Study Buddy or Group Study

For instant motivation there is no best option than getting a study partner or better gathering your friend to study together. Studying with friends can keep you on track, boost your mood and make you feel like you’re part of an academic squad. Bonus points if your group has a steven to make flashcards and a Jeremiah to highlight everything in sight. Belly dragged Steven and Jeremiah to help study, which multiplied the energy of studying.

2. Get a Study Buddy or Group Study

3. Snacks Are Essentials

Belly knows you can’t study on an empty stomach and to make studying more fun and energetic snacks are must haves! Stock up on burgers, fries, soda or whatever your comfort snacks are. Make sure to get extras because you will need them for the reward system (more on that later). I would highly recommend adding coffee first. Because personally I can’t function without coffee.

Snacks Are Essentials

4. Make Practice Tests

Belly made a custom practice test for Conrad. If you are solo create one for yourself using past questions or mock exams. Or you can use some really good AI generated practice tests. Pair it with noise cancelling headphones so you can lock in without distractions.

5. Flashcard Time

The best Classic and effective way to go. Belly Conklin used flashcards to quiz Conrad, rewarding correct answers with snacks. Yes and no more snacks before the answer is correct. This will keep you motivated to study harder. It also turns studying into a mini game for instant dopamine hits.

6. Energy Boost Breaks – Dance or Workout

let’s get some quick push ups or a workout of your choice that will give you some energy boosts. Or maybe dancing on your favorite beats of your playlist. These tiny workouts and dancing keep your energy up and without draining you.

7. Keep the vibes positive

if your group gets tired, cheer them up like Belly Conklin with encouragement like –

– “Come on!! There’s still miles to go before you sleep!” . And if you’re alone and tired keep telling yourself you have to keep on going. You can’t go to sleep without finishing studying. If that fails, blast some rock music and have a mini dance party again.

8. Highlight and Annotate like the Fisher Boys

Highlight and Annotate like the fisher boys and Steven. Highlight key points like Jeremiah and make detailed flashcards like Steven. And later write down what you learned immediately after a study block.

9. Mix Study with little breaks

Take a mini break to wind down. If that doesn’t help, take a mini power nap of 30-45mins. Chat with a friend how you’re feeling. Because studying before exams can be really stressful and talking with a friend can help you cool down. Have a snack and enjoy it other than thinking of studying. Do something that you will enjoy and want about the exam stress for a while.

10. End with Affirmations

Wrap up with a little self love. “Good Job, everyone!”, We did it!!, I am so proud of you guys! Acknowledging your effort is just as important as casual studying.

Now, let’s talk about how this method actually works. It’s social and boosts accountability, It’s reward based and keeps the energy and motivation high. It’s perfectly balanced and mixes focused work with fun. Studying doesn’t have to be all about pulling an all-nighter stress filled grind and consuming too much caffeine to get some energy and stay awake. Make it a vibes, make it social and don’t forget the fries.
