Whether you’re addicted to your phone or other digital devices or just need a break from them then join the club! As a student, blogger and very chronic online girl I decided to start a new routine that includes less screen time and less use of my digital devices to be more present and end doomscrolling. So all while I was making a list and routine I ended up making a guide!

What is Digital Detox?
Digital Detox means when you take a break from your most I use digital devices like phone, laptop, ipad etc or just swap it with something that helps you reduce stress, improve focus, boost your mood and mental health while helping you be more present and reconnect with real life.
It doesn’t mean fully stop using your devices but taking a break whenever you feel too much and stop letting your devices control your life.

How to do a Digital Detox as a Beginner
We are going to start small and slow. So, you don’t have to quit everything and actually vanish. The best way and the main advice would be to explore what works best for you, while trying the ways and ideas, make a routine and follow it consistently. Whatever you do, whether it’s small or less effective, we have to do it consistently.
So long story short –

- One step at a time
- stay consistent even if you think you cant
- Set small boundaries so you can follow them better
- No big rules and don’t put too much pressure on yourself
- You don’t have to be perfect just stay consistent

1 . For reducing screen time with digital device habits

- Change your screen saver into a reminder so every time you open the phone or other device it will remind you to not spend too much time on it. You can make the wallpaper for your phone or laptop on canvas or just download something from pinterest.
- Turn off all notifications. You can keep the essential ones for emergencies. It will help with better focus.
- Remove unnecessary apps from your phone. It can be games or social media apps you spend too much time on.
- Set daily app time limits and stick to it.
- Using grayscale mode, it will make you less addicted to your phone. It’s a display setting in your phone and computer which removes the colors and makes it mostly black, white and gray.
- Turn on focus, silent mode or DND.
- Charge your phone and other devices outside of your room. So you will not have the urge to check it every other minute.
- Don’t bring your phone to bed. Swap your scrolling with reading a book and for alarm try an analog one.
- Don’t use your phone the first thing in the morning, at least for an hour after you wake. I know it seems impossible but you will get to it by taking small efforts everyday.
- Try a “No phone hour” everyday and stick to it.
Activities to replace doomscrolling

- Read books! This is something I will always say first. Even if you don’t like reading, try it slowly. 5 to 10 pages daily. It will help you improve focus and mental health, learn new things, reduce screen time and be more present in life. If you read fiction you will be transferred into a different world, get lost into it and forget about the real world and its problems for a while. Which is why it will be my forever favorite one for life.
- Make a vision board. Put everything you want and desire for. It will keep you going and constantly motivate you to be better and make it real.
- Journal – Write about your day or what you want to do, your thoughts and goals or literally anything that’s on your mind.
- Sketch or try coloring books. A very relaxing and whimsy activity that will heal your inner child too.
- Write hand written letters or annotate
- Do crafty things –
- Try legos, puzzles or board games. You can do it with a friend or just solo.
- Bake or cook something. Try new recipes.
Digital Detox for Mental, Physical Health and Self Care

- Move your body after you wake up instead of checking your phone
- Try stretching, yoga or pilates with meditation or breathwork.
- Pray, manifest and do daily affirmations
- Go for a walk or run without earphones or any device. Feel the nature and be present with it.
- Go to the gym, workout without any music and stay fully focused on your workouts, reps and following the routine.
- Make coffee, breakfast and slowly start your day
- Try to do the activities that do not involve your devices
- Read some more and write everything down
- Take a nap without any of the devices in your surroundings.
- Try a nighttime wind down routine with a brain dump through journaling

- Leave your phone and devices outside of your room before sleep
- No screentime 60 minutes before your bedtime
- Don’t search for your phone the first 60 minutes after you wake up
- Read or journal to swap with doomscrolling
- Do skincare or hair care while doing affirmations.
- Use warm lighting in your rooms
- Try new candles or scented stuff to your room
- Try breathing and muscle relaxation methods.
- Write tomorrow’s plan or make a to-do list.
- Reflect on how your day went and analyze your thoughts

- Try a no phone day. Do not use any of your digital devices
- Go on a coffee date or out for brunch
- Take photos on your film camera instead of phone
- Visit a bookstore
- Go to a park or farmers market
- Do a grocery shopping
- Cook or bake with friends
- Host board games or crafty get together
- Join a book club or any hobby club
