As a college student with a job and a very active life with too many things, I have been having a hard time juggling and balancing everything. Which is a reason I find myself in reading slumps frequently where I used to read daily. One of the main reasons I actually don’t read is because if I start its really hard to put it down and I keep feeling guilty for wasting time and procrastinating.
Well, I don’t really consider it wasting but you know it’s just hard to not be able to maintain the routine I made for myself and be able to tick off everything by the end of the day. I especially tend to skip workouts sometimes due to imbalance and lack of discipline too. So, for both my mental and physical health, I need some discipline and couldn’t think of a better challenge than the 75 hard challenge. But with a bookish twist of course.
So, I made this challenge and really hope to stick by it and definitely going to update the progress once I finish it. So wish me luck and I hope if you’re interested you would join me in this challenge. I have also created some printable stuff, essentials and everything you need like my guides to make it easy for you of course.
Let’s lock in now!
1. Read at least 10 pages daily

Reading at least 10 pages of non fiction books which will help you mentally, motivate and stay disciplined. But for my edition, still read at least 10 pages or if you want a whole book if you want. (I have been in phases when I used to read 1 book a day) anyway read anything you want any book, any genre works.
Of course we are beginning with this rule because I am most excited about this one. Also I want to start slow as we are going to slowly fix our routine and stay on track. And, reading seems like the perfect way to kick off this challenge. It will also help with the reading slump and bring back the good habit if you were a regular reader 10 pages is easy as it would take from 10minutes to 30mins max for any reading with any pace. You can do it before going to sleep or waking up in the morning, during lunch break, in the evenings or literally anytime you want.
The original rule specifically says to read only non fiction. But as I have made this bookish edition we can read anything. As for me? I am going to finish my big pile of tbr and all my anticipated reads of the year. But, I obviously want to use the actual rule so I am going to mix up and read a few non fiction books every week. At least 1 book per week. And, I know for a fact it would be perfect for me and everyone who does it.
Benefit of this as a reader I know reading keeps my mental health really healthy.
2. Two 45 Minutes Workouts- one in the sun and one at home

The original is two workouts, 45 minutes each every day. Doing it together 90 mins wont count.
My bookish twist is almost the same but I recommend doing the first workout of 45mins through walking outside in the sun while listening to audiobooks or podcasts. Or you can stretch, do pilates while listening to the same but outside.
So, you get both fresh air and sun which gives you vitamin D. And, the second one you can do at the gym or at home based on your convenience. Also, you can pick some more audiobooks to give you company while you are working out. Or if you are using a treadmill, cycle or stairmaster you can keep your hardcover or kindle in front of you and get some reading done.
The main purpose is to build a healthy life with discipline and good habits even when your day is packed. Multitasking can also help. And, personally I struggle with balancing these two. So it’s the best way in my opinion and I have done it in the past and I’m really excited to continue it and add to my routine.
3. Drink 3.7 liters Water Every Day with Bookish Reminders

Well, I couldn’t come up with a proper bookish edition for this rule. The main rule says to strictly drink water everyday. And, the main reason most people like me forgets because we don’t track it or simply remember.
So, I have decided to download an app which will give me drink water reminders. This is also something I have done in the past and it has helped me drink water throughout the day. It was really fun to set a drinking water goal, get notified that you drink water now and fill it every time you drink. So, I will begin this again.
Since I am also going to be strict about it. I am taking some initiatives. I am going to write “Drink Water Now” on sticky notes and put them on places and things I use on a daily basis. So, I get more reminders. I have also made a drink water reminder book mark. So, when I am reading I can see it and it will remind me to drink water.
4. Follow a Structured Meal Plan with Calorie Deficit

The original rule is very strict which I respect but since we are going a bit smooth and mainly balancing everything I would still follow my version strictly with my terms because this is actually an important rule.
I will start with timing and having my meals exactly at the same time I have fixed for myself. Which I will track through my trackers. (You can download for free from the link down below too). Then, don’t restrict too much because as a college student I have to eat out a lot but I will try my best to lower that a bit.
Then balancing with calorie deficit and workouts. I think counting calories for calorie deficit and proteins and fiber would be the perfect way to do it.
Then for my bookish twists I will follow some recipes and routines from the books and movies. Because I have seen over the years these recipes and routines from my beloved fictional characters motivates me a lot, especially if it’s from sports romance books. So, I am really excited for it.
I will write about that when I do. You can find them here in the lifestyle category!
5. Take A Daily Progress Photo or Write About It To Track and Stay Motivated

Lastly, tracking the process. The original rule specifies to take pictures everyday for 75days. I would suggest that too. But I know it can be hard especially if you have a busy routine. So, we are going to try taking pictures if it doesn’t work, we will write about it in our journal or notebook. I have made them for myself and you can use them too!
I picked out this alternative because I write about my reading logs regularly to keep track of my reading. On my note apps, doc files, notebook or the reading journal where I update my book reviews and thoughts. It helps me be motivated and track everything. So, I think the bookish twist for this would be the perfect way to follow it too.
