A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson is a booktok sensation that is adapted into a tv series by BBC. It’s a ya murder mystery and thriller which has a total of 4 books (including book 0, which is the prequel of the first book) but all of them can be read as standalone but might contain spoilers so I recommend reading in order. I also made a reading order + Author guide here.
According to the author and all the behind the scenes shared throughout the last few months filming and the casts, hopefully it is based on the first book. And we might also get something from the prequel book which came out in 2021.

- On September 5, 2022 Holly Jackson shared an Instagram post announcing that “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” is going to be a TV SHOW by BBC.
- Later on June 19, 2023 the official cast of Pip and Ravi was announced.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder Series by Holly Jackson is mostly known as a book trilogy but there is a prequel book which came out in 2021 3years after the first book but its set a few months before the first book. Here is the suggested + publication order with details :

Kill Joy – February 18, 2021
Kill joy is a prequel of the first book in the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series. It is set a few months before the events of the first book which follows Pip and her friends having a murder mystery party based on “And Then There Were None” by Agatha Christie with costumes and clues.
As they start to solve the mystery, we get to see where Pip’s detective side began and while solving the mystery how the thought of choosing the closed case of Andie and Sal for her school project brewed.
It came out in 2021, 3 years after the first book but I’d recommend reading this first as it is set before the events of the first book but you can enjoy it later if you want.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder – May 2, 2019
The first book, A good girl’s guide to murder follows a teenager Pippa Fitz-Amobi, who has started investigating a closed case for her school project that involves a girl named Andie Bell who was murdered by her boyfriend Sal Singh 5 years ago, at least that’s what the town, little Kilton and their people believe. But she has known Sal since she was young and how nice he was with everyone and refused to believe he could kill Andie. So she’s determined to prove his innocence and solve the mystery herself because “The dead can’t defend themselves, but I can.” with the help of Sal’s brother Ravi Singh.
As they begin their investigation they realize how dark and twisted the case is with multiple suspects, while someone from little Kilton is constantly sending threat notes.
Good Girl, Bad Blood – April 30, 2020
The 2nd book starts right after a few months of the first book. Where Pip is finishing up her final work on her podcast “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” named by Ravi which is a true-crime podcast about the murder case they solved together last year with no hope of ever solving anything or being involved in something like this that cost her so much including losing someone very close to her and herself.
She keeps her promise to not get obsessed with solving anymore until her friend Connor Reynolds’ brother Jamie Reynolds goes missing on the day of Andie and Sal’s memorial. As the cops are not helping, Pip breaks her promise and steps up to help Connor along with Ravi.
As they begin to investigate once more they realize how darker, dangerous and twisted people of Kilton’s secrets are.
As Good As Dead – August 5, 2021
The 3rd and final book is set after the events of the last two books and it’s about Pip’s personal stalker case. Pip is haunted with how her last investigation ended but she’s ready to leave everything behind and get ready to start her college journey. As her true-crime podcast blew up last year she received a lot of hate comments and death threats. It doesn’t affect her much until she receives a threat of her own disappearance and soon she realizes she has a stalker.
As she starts digging she finds connections with her stalker and a local serial killer caught six years ago which makes her rethink all her detective instincts.

Okay this part might contain some spoilers of the first book and the tv show so I’d highly recommend skipping it. And if you mind spoilers and are curious just like me then proceed <3

- Pip and Ravi working together – we first got them in a frame when Holly posted the official cast announcement of Pip and Ravi and later in a lot of behind the scenes filming scenes. And in the picture I think they are going somewhere or could be the scenes of them visiting the woods or tracking locations.
- Barney – In a lot of bts pics barney is seen with pip and ravi!
- Lots of Pip Investigating alone + Logs – the official picture of bbc promoting show – pip with an investing board show lots of easter eggs which could be the board she made with ravi + more of her working on it + the production logs.
- Pip meeting dan de silva – A bts pics shows her interacting with the towns cop dan de silva which could be a scene from the book where she meets him.
- Looking for Barney? – SPOILERS The pip sad and restless scene could be the day barney went missing or the mysterious call day
- Pip and Leanne – I don’t actually remember Pip and Leanne this scene but there was one where victor went to pips room to tell her barneys news when she was studying maybe that will change a bit here.
- Ravi consoling Pip – this could be a scene where they are tired looking for barney or after his news and ravi coming to her room and consoling her.
- Calamity Party scene – There are many more filming scenes but these are my favorites so far. The very recent post announcing the official release date which also happens to be the first ever teaser of bbc is the calamity party scene. For pips investigation she went to this part.
Season 2 of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder
There is no official news or any hint of season 2 as season 1 is not even out yet. But if season 1 turns out good and the audience love it we might get the renewal of season 2. And hopefully it will be based on the second book and introduce more new characters.
